Commissioned Paintings
Artist’s Statement
Over the years I’ve been asked to create paintings for government buildings and commemorative occasions. Each of these commissions has challenged me to work in a different way and in different settings. Whether working personally with families to record the interests of children at a specific stage in their development or working with the grand occasion of the 200th anniversary of the White House, I have found a unique way to tell a story with my brush. The Fish and Game Department uses my painting set in NH’s Flume to teach students about animal camouflage and my painting of Sarah J. Hale writing her Thanksgiving letter to President Lincoln has been a touchstone for teaching about the NH writer’s moment in history that too often been forgotten. Commissions have a way of building community around a shared work of art.
